 ASSISTANCE TO THOSE IN NEED

 - GRATERFORD GRAY PANTHERS

OUR MISSION

The Graterford Gray Panthers' mission is to acknowledge what are the needs of incarcerated seniors and ex-offenders and to address them in the State of Pennsylvania. We provide advocacy, re-entry resources and assistance. Our goals are to create and secure an Aging Out of Crime release system for elderly prisoners, both men & women in Pennsylvania. We share a common interest in the rehabilitative endeavors our young adults face while inside of prison and when they are released back into the community. We are working to develop a continued collaboration with the elder women in Muncy & Cambridge Springs, which is implemented in our drive toward servicing our communities and all seniors.

OUR VALUE

The Gray Panthers play a significant role when it comes to mentoring the young men within Graterford Community. Our experience has helped us to appreciate humanity. History always sought the counsel of elders for sound guidance and wisdom; this is the purpose why the Gray Panthers Organization has formed here. The Gray Panthers Organization demands the highest respect from its Executive Board and the general membership - anything less is unacceptable.

OUR VISION

Our vision is to empower, educated and enlighten seniors to the realities and possibilities of making a positive transition back into their communities, as well as providing them with positive leadership while inside prison. Through means of motivation and creative activities, we will help seniors improve their mental and physical well-being. The members of the Gray Panthers organization strive to maintain quality relationships with everyone we serve, which takes discipline, integrity and determination. We are always striving towards excellence. Research has shown that elderly prisoners have the lowest rate of recidivism (less than 1%), compared to any other class of offender (40-67%) upon release from prison.

PARTNERS

Our closest partners are the NAACP, Lifers Inc., Veterans Organization, Local 466, here at Graterford, and the Senior Ladies at SCI-Muncy and SCI-Cambridge Springs. We have a large number of committed members from the above mentioned groups.
